Lyttleton O. (Tanny) Shirley, JP

Considered to be one of Jamaica’s leading entrepreneurs, Lyttleton Ovel Shirley is highly regarded by his colleagues as being a visionary in the field of business.

Mr. Shirley has over 42 years of involvement in Jamaica’s Private and Public sectors.

Mr. Shirley takes his civic responsibility very seriously and strongly believes in social participation to bring about positive change and growth for Jamaica. As a member of the Moravian Church, he sits on the Hector Street Church Development Committee as well as the Skills Centre Board of Management. Through Shirlhome Chemical’s adoption of Dupont Primary School, he contributes to the welfare of students at the Dupont Primary School. He is a Director of the Association of Friends and Families Against Substance Abusers (AFAFOSA). Mr. Shirley is also a Master Mason of the Friendly Lodge. Mr. Shirley is also a Director of the Queen’s School Board; a position he has held since 2002.

In addition to his involvement with these organizations, Mr. Shirley was the Chairman of the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) for over eight years, from October 2006 through to July 2014.
SERHA represents over fifty-two percent (52%) of Jamaica’s entire public health care system with a staff complement of over 6,000 and an annual budget of over JA$10 billion. SERHA has responsibility for ten (10) major hospitals (six of which are specialty hospitals serving the entire country) and one hundred and three (103) health centres in the parishes of Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine and St. Thomas. During his tenure as Chairman, Mr. Shirley worked assiduously to carry out his mandate to plan and administer the services of the SERHA Board, ensuring that the best interest of the Region was served in the delivery of public health services.
Mr. Shirley also sat on the Management Board for the University Hospital of the West Indies for more than four years as well the board of the Pest Control Authority.
His dynamic drive, visionary approach to business and the knowledge gained in Chemical Engineering, all contribute to the resounding success of his companies, which led to his selection as a 2005 Jamaica Observer Business Leader Nominee.
Recognition of his entrepreneurial spirit by his alma mater culminated in March 2011, when Mr. Shirley was inducted in Saint Andrew Technical High School’s Hall of Fame.
His high corporate standards, unbridled passion for excellence, coupled with his strong motivational style and flair for originality, have contributed to the other companies in the group maintaining top positions in the Jamaican market, despite fierce competition.
His boundless energy flows into his recreational activities of jogging, playing dominoes and his being an avid fan of cricket, boxing and basketball. He relaxes by spending time with family and friends.
